A Path Out of Existential Horror and Sadness

by Mary E. Lowd

Sometimes darkness descends
Sometimes you can’t fend it off
You can’t pretend not to see
The infinite void beyond
The veneer of a sunny day—

The blue painted sky fails to hide
The endless night behind

—but you can choose to chase
The glimmering, gleaming
Elusive
Trails of light
