Mask Slipping

by Mary E. Lowd

Masked & hidden
There’s so much within
A single mind holds
Worlds
Of every rainbow hue
It’s all she can do
To cradle it softly
Whispering calmly
—beseechingly, strongly—
Of all the thoughts they could
Share together
If only
Her mask would protect them better
