The World Tree

by Mary E. Lowd

A tree so old
The whole planet beneath
Crumbled
To nothing more than dirt
Clinging to roots

The only clouds
Float around its branches

All that’s left
Is the tree

So ancient
It has consumed
All the world into itself

Roots trail away
To stars
Branches reach
Up toward
Galaxies
