Suddenly Violence

Okay, so, the original six movies — Lord of the Rings and Hobbit — were fine to watch with my kids, and the first FIVE HOURS of Rings of Power were fine too… but now we’re graphically gouging out eyes and having them drip all over and other egregious violence?

Not loving this.

I can handle violence in shows, but just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should, and this level of violence in Rings of Power was out of tone with everything that preceded it.

If that’s the kind of show it wants to be, it should have set that tone earlier.

I love the Scream franchise, but I wouldn’t expect its level of gore to suddenly show up without warning in…

Well, honestly, I’m starting to wonder where I can safely assume that a show won’t suddenly jump to that kind of graphic onscreen violence any more.

Maybe I’m just being grumbly, but the same problem happened with Star Trek Discovery and Picard, and even Stranger Things started out as a show that we were watching because my kid’s friends loved it… and by season three, it’s waaaay too violent for kids that age.

Of course, I wouldn’t so much change where Stranger Things has gone… because I do love it… but I guess, I just kind of wish shows could be clearer with their intentions.

Sometimes I’m up for watching a bunch of gore. Sometimes I’m really not.

I don’t think I ever wanted to see that orc’s eye bleed all over the other guy’s face. I certainly wasn’t in the mood for it after hours of slow-paced but beautiful boats and ornate cities and panoramic vistas.
