Preserving the Wrong Aspects of Reality

I am really torn between hating Stardew Valley (because it goes out of its way to preserve far too many aspect of real life) and desperately wanting to win at it…

Except it’s not really the kind of game where you “win”…

Which brings us back around to the possibly hating it.

I just desperately want to be able to right click somewhere, pull down a menu to “build whatever,” and then it builds whatever. Instead of having to walk ACROSS TOWN, find an obscure house, get told I didn’t bring the right supplies, walk back ACROSS TOWN, get the supplies…

…walk back ACROSS TOWN again, and find the store is closed because it’s too late in the evening.

Accomplishing anything in Stardew Valley is so laborious it doesn’t even fit in a single tweet.

And that’s even when you’re only describing failing at it.

See, in World of Warcraft, I can FLY, stay out ALL NIGHT LONG, and carry a vendor who’s always open around in my pocket (along with a whole mammoth, unlike the measly little backpack in Stardew Valley).

One of these games is doing a much better job of being an escape for me.
