The advances in AI these last few years have been truly magical, the absolute best thing that have happened during my lifetime.
For this piece, I experimented with pasting the whole damn story into ChatGPT & asking it to come up with an illustration. It took a lot of editing to fix it up right, but DALLE3 captured the heart of the story on its first try! And it complimented my world-building! So, win-win.
And yes, I’m keenly aware that earlier today I planted a flag firmly in the hill that AI art takes real time, effort, and skill… and then I’m posting about this piece almost magically happening.
But with any field of art, some pieces you struggle over for hours…
…and other pieces just seem to come together like magic. I experience that in my writing. We can celebrate it in other fields. It should be okay to celebrate it with AI art too, without pretending it somehow invalidates the whole field.
Though, at another level, sure that piece of art just happened, *snaps fingers*, like that… but…
I spent literally years writing the story.
And even more years developing the world and characters.
So, basically, I started writing that prompt decades before DALLE was born.
