I’m a little troubled on this rewatch of Gremlins by the extent to which the humans just start immediately slaughtering the mogwai as soon as they no longer have cute fuzzy fur.
A surprising amount of the gremlins’ aggression and chaos is simply coming off as self-defense…
I guess this is the kind of take on Gremlins that happens when you watch it while in the middle of reading Seanan McGuire’s InCryptid series.
I like how Phoebe Cates’ character is just gamely trying to serve the Gremlins in the bar as if they’re normal — albeit unusually boisterous — customers.
Also, the Gremlin-infested bar seems to have a lot in common, vibe-wise, with the Grouch restaurant in Follow That Bird.
Mogwai seem to primarily say the word “mogwai,” and they have at least one evolution…
So Gremlins/Mogwai are Pokémon?
