Pet Scissors
“You never know when scissors are going to come to life.” — Elaine, who is now feeding paper to her pet scissors
The Magic of Sledding
In an effort to keep my daughter’s life magical, I lugged half a dog crate to the nearest park today where she transformed it into a sled.
“If I sled good enough, I might travel all the way to Christmas Eve!” — Elaine
Christmas… Harmonies?
Ah, the beautiful, discordant sound of Elaine singing Christmas carols with the radio… just not the same ones as the radio.
Loose Change for Santa
Apparently, Elaine thinks Santa comes up the stairs on the 1st of December; I found 48 cents and a card for him at the top of the stairwell.
Truly a Timeless Classic
Elaine is watching the end of The Last Unicorn, shouting at the screen, “Save them! Go! Go! Go! Save them, unicorn! Save them!”
My Favorite Heckler
My cats may like my ocarina, but my big orange Sheltie hates it. It’s harder to practice with his constant heckling rattling me.
Misuse of Toothbrushes
The baby was jealous of my toothbrush so I gave him one. He figured out that if he holds it by the bristle end, he can club things with it.
Termite
The baby likes chewing on my desk. I think he’s a termite.

Shel Silverstein’s books of poetry are working as a stop-gap measure for now.
