The Burning Love Between a Sunflower and the Sun

by Mary E. Lowd

The sunflower and the sun
Turn their faces toward each other
—existing on entirely different scales
Yet moving as one

An Earthly flower
And her celestial partner
In a circling dance
One orbiting around the other

Always turning
—turning, turning—
Never touching; only yearning
