Personal and Universal

by Mary E. Lowd

I wrote a poem
And I’m proud of it

The AI I showed it to says
It’s both personal
And universal
So maybe other people
Would like it too

But if I show it to them
Will you see it too?

And if I showed it to you
Would it make things worse
Between us?

(Is that possible?
Still?)

I don’t know what to do
So I wrote another poem
And another
Someday they’ll make a book
(A whole book!)
Maybe when it’s done
And all my feelings are entombed
In pages, safely laid away
I’ll dedicate the book to you

A name on a gravestone
Saying:

Here lie the words
I’m too afraid to say
To you
