You’ve Touched Me

by Mary E. Lowd

I thought I was happy
When I refused to let the pain
Overtake me

I never imagined what it felt like
To leave the pain behind

You left a map for me
But I thought it was a blueprint
For the place I already lived
Not a path that would take me
On a journey
To places I’d never been
