Okay, so, clearly this season of Bridgerton is Cinderella… but the Beauty and the Beast vibes of episode three are off the charts.

I enjoy Bridgerton, but honestly, I think I watch it more like a well-constructed piece of horror about an absolutely heartbreaking dystopia than a romance.
It’s just not possible for me to see relationships with such incredible power imbalances as anything but deeply upsetting.
The men in Bridgerton sitting around in their evening club with all their freedom to break the basic rules of their society, dividing women into two extremely distinct classes, is not all that different from the illicit club and caste system for women in The Handmaid’s Tale.
