The 13-year-old has been developing a fear of fear itself, like pointing a mirror at a mirror. So, I’ve decided to start walking them through a carefully curated set of scary movies.
First up was Speed. The kid was terrified to start, but then grinned the whole way through.
Next weekend, I intend to show the kid Aliens and T2, because I think they need to meet Ellen Ripley and Sarah Connor.
The thirteen-year-old is upset. Why? They rewatched Speed and are worried they didn’t enjoy it enough.
Either that, or they just love it too much.
They’re not sure which.
The thirteen-year-old has now watched Speed three times in three days and plans to watch it again tomorrow. When I was in high school and first saw it — rented on a VHS tape (or maybe a laser disc?) — I watched it six times in five days. So, this seem about right to me.
