It truly bewilders me when people argue against AI because if artists can’t support themselves then they’ll have to get other jobs and won’t be able to make art.
That’s not an argument against AI.
That’s an argument against other jobs underpaying for how much time they take.
Everyone should be able to make art. That includes all the people who have non-art jobs.
Art is something that everyone should be able to do. Not just people who are good at it, let alone good ENOUGH at it to win a competitive capitalistic art selling game.
So if jobs in general don’t leave enough time and resources in workers’ lives for making art, then that’s an across the board labor issue that desperately needs to be solved.
Pushing back against AI won’t solve it or even touch it.
Also, just to be clear, when I say I’m bewildered, I mean less that I’m confused and need it explained than that I’m disappointed and aghast. I don’t need it explained. Believe me, I’ve seen it explained a lot. I understand. I just disagree so profoundly that it’s bewildering.
