City on the Sun

by Mary E. Lowd

As ephemeral as a bubble
As temporally sudden—
A blip, a slip, a city

Lifetimes on the inside
Are the blink of a solar eye
On the outside
Where vacuum freezes
And burning hydrogen seizes
The city’s walls with heat & wrath

We follow our paths
Through a tiny life
Sheltered inside
