Four is Twice in Every Direction

by Mary E. Lowd

A thought object is bouncing around in my brain
If I write it down
It’s like catching the fly
That’s bouncing around inside the room with you
Except…
If the thought object is gone
No longer taking up all the space in my mind
There’s room for a new one to break in
And what if I like the new one
Less than the old one?

Maybe I should just let it keep
Rattling around
Inside my mind
