The Dragon Queen

by Mary E. Lowd

Gold come to life
Her scales glitter and shine
Queen of a domain
That ranges far and wide
But she doesn’t need coins

No pile of doubloons
Stretching toward the sky
Nor gemstones, cold and hard

Goblets spill wine
Busily enjoyed
Not hoarded, unused
Rolling on their sides

She is
Her own treasure
