It has become clear to me that my Bengal cats have more respect for whichever human in the house stays up the latest. Usually, that’s my spouse, who simply needs less sleep than I do. Lately, it’s been me. The Bengals have seemed noticeably surprised and impressed.
The kid’s high school health class: “Answer these 100 questions about the details of how every illegal drug works!”
The kid’s school computer: “Oh no, of course you can’t look up information about illegal drugs! We’ve blocked those words!”
Deep profound sigh.
Well, the cats knocked over all the little toys on my desk last night and stole my mouse. Usually, it’s just one or two little toys knocked a little out of true. This was a complete smashing. I think two cats must have disagreed about whose turn it was to sleep on my keyboard…
At any rate, I seem to be stuck with just my phone until my mouse turns up…
The cats have won this round.
“Watching BoJack Horseman was way more useful than anything I’ve learned in health class. Unlike this class, it actually made me not want to do drugs.”
—the fourteen-year-old
Me: “Oh good, the eight-year-old is home from school. Maybe they can beat the cats at their game and find my missing mouse!”
Eight: “I have taken all the Lego ladders and connected them into one gigantic ladder that can be worn as a necklace!”
A backup mouse has been procured from the closet of old electronics! I can use my computer again!
Now to numb myself to the horror of the health class I’m helping my fourteen-year-old work through with some good druid leveling in Warcraft…
On the balance, even though the poorly worded questions for the English class were infuriating, at least they had me and my kid discussing poetry, instead of just looking up one after another side effect of various drugs.
This health class is the worst.
Ooh, William Atherton is in this episode of Stargate SG1 (S9E12). That’s always fun, because in addition to being in Ghostbusters ‘84 and Real Genius, I’m told he went to math camp with my mom as a kid, which may be a random and tenuous connection, but it’s still pretty neat.
