Brigadoon (Starring Gene Wilder???)

Me: mentions Gene Kelly in Brigadoon because I’ve been writing a story called “Treegadoon”

Friend: misreads Gene Kelly as Gene Wilder

Other Friend: mentions they haven’t seen Brigadoon

Me: writes whole essay on Brigadoon with a focus on replacing Gene Kelly with Gene Wilder Continue reading “Brigadoon (Starring Gene Wilder???)”

Men in Black 1-3

The Men in Black trilogy starring Will Smith is truly excellent. The first is a complete classic with iconic moments all the way through; the third is surprisingly tight and lands a complicated time-travel story beautifully.

And the second… it has a talking pug dog sing along with the barks in “Who Let the Dogs Out.” Continue reading “Men in Black 1-3”

Magic Do As You Will

To be a craftsman, you must be able to create high quality work reliably.

To be an artist, you must have something that you feel compelled to communicate. Continue reading “Magic Do As You Will”

When You Can’t Quite Remember the Word…

It’s small, but I really love how good AI is at things like this…

Me: Can you think of a word somewhere between “crashed into each other,” “crossed paths,” and “collapsed”?

And instantly, ChatGPT provides “collided” which is exactly the word that had been eluding me.

21 Jump Street

We watched the movies “21 Jump Street” and “22 Jump Street” this weekend. They’re kind of dumb, but also fairly fun. I remember watching reruns of the original show back in the 90s. My little sister really liked it. I remembered approximately three specific things from the show: Continue reading “21 Jump Street”

Magic Poems Book Release

Drove two hours today to a little TV station to read a couple of my poems — “Freedom is a Cat” & “The Robot Unicorn Solution” — for the release of a book I made the cover art for!
I’d never seen a green screen in person before, let alone been filmed in front of one. Pretty cool!

Infinite Cake

Me: How much cake is left?

Spouse: None.

Side Effect

After several hours listening to an AI clone of my voice, constantly judging whether it’s hitting quite the right note, I find I feel weird when I actually speak out loud, because I’m still in the habit of carefully monitoring & judging my voice. It makes everything sound weird.

Legendary Boysenberry

Brain: let’s put a Taylor Swift song on loop!

Me: you mean get a song stuck in my head?

Brain: how about one where she rhymes with “legendary”! Continue reading “Legendary Boysenberry”

The Walk

The Walk (2015) is an incredible movie and also extremely, weirdly stressful given that I knew it would end just fine. I still spent the final third of the movie completely knotted up with tension. I would definitely not have wanted to see it in the theater.
