David Rose, Rarity, and Fashion

David Rose (Schitt’s Creek) and Rarity (My Little Pony) are both characters whose strong aesthetic senses resonate deeply for me… while also causing me to recoil, because they’re so focused on fashion, and I loathe fashion, because I can ONLY WEAR COMFORTABLE CLOTHES, which is anathema to most fashion.

It’s not that I can’t enjoy fashion in the sense of appreciating the beauty in some clothing, but as someone with extremely sensitive skin and texture issues, I have zero patience for the prescriptive qualities that often go along with fashion.

My need to not be bothered by seams or textures will always outweigh any desire I might have to wear clothes that look nice.

So any time the fashion industry makes it harder for me to find clothing that simply lets me function as a human being, it becomes my active enemy.

And yes, it’s possible to make your own clothes. Sometimes my mom, who’s very skilled at sewing, makes things for me, or alters them. This means I know EXACTLY how much time and effort goes into that. Spoiler: it’s A LOT. And I do not have the time.

If there’s a choice between fashion and comfort, there’s no contest.

And if there’s a choice between fashion and having time to, I dunno, write a short story? Again, no contest. Especially since my texture issues make clothes-shopping my literal least favorite activity.

I will always choose being comfortable & doing things I enjoy while wearing sloppy-looking, loose-fitting, unfashionable clothes over allowing clothes to take over my time & mind.

Now if the fashion industry would focus on comfort and practicality first? Sure, then I could care.
