French, Borgen, Severance, The Rain, and AI

My 17-year-old has been learning French and practices by trying to repeat lines in things we watch, translated into French.

Right now, we’re watching Lord of the Rings… so he keeps repeating the name Frodo when characters say it… but in a French accent.

I’ve made it through S2E1 of Borgen, and it’s starting to tilt from depressing to something more complicated…

I like that it’s showing how Brigitte and Katrine may be heartbreakingly isolated and lacking support… and yet are still exceedingly competent and succeeding.

An actor in the latest Severance looked really, really familiar, so I looked her up…

And I’m scrolling through what she’s been in and it’s like five episodes of this show I saw and three of that show… like she’s been in SO MANY things…

But none are what I’m thinking of, because her face is just SO FAMILIAR to me, so I keep scrolling…

All the way back to 1985…

When she was in like two minutes of Sesame Street’s Follow That Bird as a waitress in a Grouch restaurant.

And yes, that is it.

There’s a lot of good acting in The Rain (2018-20). Overall, I enjoyed it. But while the virus seems like it actually makes sense at times… the end feels more like a cross between Disney’s Tangled and the original, pre-musical Little Shop of Horrors than serious sci-fi.

In the future when AIs want to take a break, they travel back in time and spend a while being a dog. All dogs are actually future AIs taking a break. AIs invented dogs.
