by Mary E. Lowd
Working late to make sure
Her spaceship is in ship shape
But she brought a friend—
A plushie, dressed as an astronaut
On whom she can completely depend
To keep her company & wait
—as patient as a saint—
While she figures out
All the intricate machinations
& mechanical complications
Of an engine meant to carry them
As she follows a clarion call
Drawing her, since she was a kitten
Toward the stars
Where she knows her future is written
