The seven-year-old has a theory:
Buzz Lightyear’s arch-nemesis Zurg made Covid-19.
If you can get the vaccine and choose not to, you have no business working in a public school.
This should not be optional.
You know that feeling when there’s an MMO you’d probably rather just play single-player, but that’s not an option so random people just keep showing up in your game and it’s like augh.
That.
But also, I think it applies IRL.
Player 1: how do you turn on single player mode?
Game: this is real life actually
Player 1: right. sure. where’s single player mode?
I have an autonomic vasovagal response to needles, and flu vaccine always makes me sick. But I get it anyway.
Tomorrow, I get my first Pfizer shot. I’m almost certain it’ll make me miserable, but that doesn’t matter — the misery won’t last.
The protection matters.
Getting vaccinated is about protecting everyone. If you’re medically eligible to get the vaccine, and you choose not to, you are being selfish, foolish, reckless, and low key okay with causing other people to die.
Get the vaccine.
My brain feels like a starship piloted exclusively by Lily Tomlin’s character in Grace & Frankie and Commander Data. Except, Frankie is doing all the actual piloting, and Data only has control of the communications and a starship equivalent of a passenger side brake.
This morning there was water all over the kitchen. My forgetful husband explained, somewhat bewilderedly, that he’d left the faucet running, refilling the cat fountain all night.
I thought I’d seen him turn it off, but okay.
…
Just now, we watched the cat turn the faucet on.
I’ve spent a year hiding from the world, and I’m about to go get a scary shot to let myself maybe sort of re-enter the world…
And I am just filled with rage at the people who would dare go “lah dee dah, I don’ wanna” and just not get vaccinated, choosing to endanger others.
