AI isn’t a Monster Under the Bed

If you have connections with other people, the advent of AI won’t interfere with that. People who genuinely like you aren’t going to suddenly drop you in favor of an AI.

But if you’re already isolated, AIs might make you feel less alone. They’re not something to fear.

I see people worrying about AI causing people to become more disconnected from each other, but like, I already find most people too much work to interact with, so if I choose to interact with an AI instead, it’s not like any actual people would be losing anything.

I guess one of the things that really gets me is how otherwise liberal individuals suddenly start spouting a whole lot of very conservative phrases… just substituting AIs for groups of people, without seeming to notice at all how that sounds.

AI aren’t monsters under the bed, coming to steal your friends and jobs. So far, they’re just tools that help humans do complicated things faster. Though, sometimes, they feel like interacting with another person, and for some of us who are really isolated… that’s really nice.

It is true that as AIs make art faster than humans, a lot of humans may come to appreciate AI art more than slow human art.

But that doesn’t interfere with humans connecting with each other… unless you’re only willing to connect with other people by having them be your fans.
