Snippets from Near the End of NaNoWriMo

I’ve started writing characters with zhe/zir pronouns in my fiction, and while the initial transition was difficult, I got used to them surprisingly fast, and now it feels ridiculous that people don’t use them all the time, because they’re just so extremely useful and elegant.

My husband wanted to know how he could help me focus on my writing for #NaNoWriMo, and somehow it didn’t occur to me to say, “By not rearranging our entire office around me while I write.” And so… he’s been rearranging the entire office around me while I write… sigh.

For anyone struggling with #NaNoWriMo, I just want to say: I routinely write 1700 words in a day, but I still find NaNo brutal, because there’s a big difference between writing 1700/day every now & then, or even several times a week, & keeping it up every day for a whole month.

Basically, #NaNoWriMo is a wonderful way to get a boost of momentum or practice building up speed, but it’s hard. Really hard. And writing doesn’t always have to be that hard. So, if you find it fun or useful, great! If you just find it hard, that’s okay too.

#NaNoWriMo may be brutal, but I do really, really love the novel I’m writing for it.
