Harrison Bergeron

My kid has to write a short story for a creative writing class, so they have me texting every five minutes to check their word count, while they hide out in their room.

This means, I have an alarm go off every five minutes and have to send a text that just reads, “Word count?”

As a strategy, this seems to be working for my kid. They’re making progress on the story.

For me, though… well…

Since I was a kid, my mom has always compared having kids to being like the alarms in Kurt Vonnegut’s “Harrison Bergeron”…

But this is a little on the nose.
