Sometimes my brain seems like a bad roommate in a 90s show taking indecipherable phone messages. “Go to the other room.” Why? What was I supposed to do when I got here? Why didn’t you write more down????
Avoiding Death and Seeking Sleep
We were told our dog was days from dying at the start of the pandemic… but she’s still going strong.
I think she must have decided Death was too busy this year, and she could wait.
Imagine if Clinton had won… and she was now running against Warren.
I know. Continue reading “Avoiding Death and Seeking Sleep”
Children, Warcraft, Bed Times, Pandemic Times
The husband, describing his own failures at parenting & why I should hold out hope for him improving:
“It’s like you were expecting me to be a really nice chicken salad sandwich, and I’m more of a PB&J sandwich without the bread. Like there’s some potential there…” Continue reading “Children, Warcraft, Bed Times, Pandemic Times”
When Fingers Dance
I don’t play piano much, but I took lessons as a kid and have poked around some as an adult. And there’s a way your fingers feel when they’re hitting the right keys — an inevitability, like the steps of a dance. Continue reading “When Fingers Dance”
Callousness

Cat Weekend continues with The Cat Returns, and it’s every bit as delightful as I remembered.
Beth’s Arc
I’ve now watched Rick & Morty twice through, and I find Beth’s arc deeply healing. I’ve been craving stories where women kill their terrible fathers, instead of forgiving and connecting with them…
And it didn’t do that, but it gave me something… better. Continue reading “Beth’s Arc”

Instructions and Penguins
Me: “Well, what did the instructions say?”
Kid, reading aloud instructions for something they’d done wrong earlier due to not reading the instructions: “Read the instructions carefully.”
Heard from the stairwell that leads up to the rooms where the kids are SUPPOSEDLY sleeping: “Augh! Don’t throw penguins at me!”
